I find his works, this included, to be entertaining light reads. The cover art is cropped to death, and slotted into a little block at the bottom of the cover. I wondered why on earth none of the knights converted. It is in this book that Sparhawk first hears the word Bhelliom. Yeah, I’d pick one up every now and again. The customs, nuances, expectations, rules of a new world are all figured out and as the reader we get to experience them throughout the book. To that end, “The Ruby Knight” is a splendid foray into genre fantasy. The Elenium is an entertaining read and a worthy place for any young reader to spend a few days of their life.
There don’t seem to be any subp Stating this upfront. It got hard to tell them apart after a while, except by their labels. If he goes up against Sparhawk, he’ll be drinking heavenly mead after the first pass. There are younger characters, but the story is definitively the tale of a cadre of older veterans coming to terms with a horrible evil that really should be left to younger men.
As a narrative, it flows very smoothly from the first book to the second, beginning the narrative right where book one left off. Many moons ago I read the Belgaria There is something immensely satisfying about complete editions.

One does not simply hop on a horse and by the end of the day be at another town on the other side of the country. And I’m particularly disturbed by the women in the story or the lack thereof. In both worlds, the main hero is an orphaned knight who was raised by a strict but loving older woman with raven-black hair and her mysterious father, both of whom turn out to be sorcerers; both fall in love of coursewith beautiful princesses oh the irony of class! The characters are pretty standard, but their dialog makes them more interesting.
Rendor is inhabited by sect of the Elene church, and every heretic that the main characters encounter and fight against is portrayed as an idiot.
Putting it bluntly, David Eddings is not a good writer. Sparhawk has a zero tolerance approach to BS which is immensely refreshing and enjoyable. They’re short on time, the queen is dying with every day, but Aphrael only uses her time-altering abilities when they encounter Wargun. The Elenium follows the same classic fantasy structure as the Belgariad and the Malloreon.
