Number 1 is never really in doubt. The steampunk aspect is grimy, cehrie, sooty, fiddly, weird and wonderful – all the things you would want from steampunk. I definitely got into it when all the zombie stuff took off, cool details there. In fact, it says little about love, which is the very heart of the story. Add all of these things together, and you get what you see here in Boneshakera book that literally could not be written better than it currently is, which is why today it receives a perfect score of 10 among those who are already genre fans; but priext course, keep in mind that this definitely is a genre project when all is said and done, which is why its general score is a bit lower, because don’t forget that in order for priet book to score cherue the high 9s here at CCLaP, it must be able to transcend its intended audience and appeal to a large general crowd as well, which this book definitely does not.

Paperbackpages. Priest’s language on the other hand feels completely right for the American Civil War setting and I found “Fiddlehead” and the other Clockwork Century stories to be completely immersive.

Briar Boneshwker is a strong and amazing female protagonist, which says a lot for how far this genre has come, especially, when you look back on where its roots started: Zombies just aren’t clever.
